Stunning hotels such as the Marques de Riscal are destinations in and of themselves. Don’t miss the Marie Cristina in San Sebastian for a traditional, old world luxury experience.
The Guggenheim may be the star of the show in northern Spain, but not to be missed are the Fine Arts Museum in Bilbao and the Balenciaga Museum in Gitaria.
Life as a Borromeo must have been splendid (except when people wanted to take your wealth, land and titles). The islands owned by this family are beautiful destinations still today.
Lake Orta is a small lake west of Lake Maggiore that is less crowded and provides a summer and winter resort environment.
A short hop through Milan meant being selective about what to see/do. A new restaurant or two, shopping, and the Armani Silos and museum.
The Peter Zumthor-designed spa in Vals, Switzerland arguably put the small village on the destinations map for non-locals. The spa is “all that” and worth the trip.
Restaurant Silver at the 7132 Hotel is a must if you make the trip to Vals. The hotel has a few options, but the Silver restaurant is a 2-star Michelin experience.
